The latest episode of The Walking Dead feels aptly named; it surely is “A New Beginning” for both the show, and more importantly, the fans. Season 9 feels particularly important for the creators — with the departures of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan looming, The Walking Dead only has one shot to get things right before a mass exodus ensues. Fortunately, Episode 1 feels almost entirely like a different show — the dialogue is cleaner, the story is interesting, there is attention to details, and the pacing is deliberate. The show does suffer from a few of the usual suspects, but not enough for us to be completely concerned…yet. Only time will tell, but at the moment, we’re feeling hopeful.
