Entertainment Weekly recently revealed exclusive news that AMC is planning a half-an-hour, stand-alone walker webisode that will tell the story of a group of airline passengers who face a zombie attack while in flight. One of the survivors will become a character on Season 2 of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead.
While the webisode will debut online, it will then be broken into segments that will air over multiple weeks during commercial breaks for episodes of Season 6 of The Walking Dead, which returns October 11. AMC has remained silent regarding the characters, cast, name, or when the special webisode will debut.
Although this is not the first time the story of a zombie attack at 35,000 feet has been told (think World War Z from 2013 and Flight of the Living Dead in 2007), it will be very interesting to see how the story is told in the Dead universe. Fear the Walking Dead’s showrunner, Dave Erickson, is co-producing the feature with David Weiner.
Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead has already been revealed to have 15 episodes. It will premiere some time in 2016.
