The Walking Dead comic book fans are already very familiar with the potential story lines to come in upcoming seasons of the show. One of the more anticipated stories (as if there is any story that isn’t anticipated by fans) is the introduction of The Hilltop Colony.
In the comic series, The Hilltop is introduced in Issue #94. It is a farming community that consists of roughly 200 residents, led by a man named Gregory. Shockingly enough, the community is only located twenty miles from the Alexandria Safe Zone. What’s even more important is the fact that the Hilltop has an ongoing trade agreement with Negan and The Saviors. So it would be likely that the Hilltop would have to be introduced prior to Negan’s appearance in the show.
Well it appears as though that might just be the case, as The Spoiling Dead Fans recently released a photo from Raleigh Studios in Senoia. If you remember correctly, Raleigh Studios is where the prison was built for Season 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead. It now appears that the old prison set may be repurposed as The Hilltop Colony.
In the photo, a number of large wooden beams are being erected. This could very well be the start of The Hilltop, as it shares a similar look with its comic counterpart.
It’s unclear as to how high the wood beams are exactly, so it is hard to tell whether this is actually The Hilltop. From a story timeline perspective, it would make a lot of sense. There also aren’t any other story lines in the comics that would account for random wooden beams other than the Hilltop.
If this is the case, what could this mean for the pacing of the show? Depending on when the Hilltop is introduced, say the midseason finale, it’s highly possible that Negan is introduced in the Season 6 finale. However, if the Hilltop isn’t fully built and filmed sooner rather than later, we likely will be waiting until Season 7 for the super villian to appear.
What do you guys think? Is this the beginning of the Hilltop, or wild fan speculation? Sound off in the comments section below.
