After last week’s debacle about the spin off series filming somewhere in Pennsylvania, we’ve finally been given some real news about the upcoming The Walking Dead companion series. As most of you know, the untitled companion series will explore the days following the initial onset of the same zombie apocalypse The Walking Dead is set in, but in a different location.
While news has been relatively quiet regarding the spin-off for a while, this week saw a couple major announcements regarding the series. Earlier this week, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm) were cast as a brother/sister duo. Dillane will play Nick, a recovering drug addict; while Debnam Carey will play an ambitious character by the name of Ashley. Both will play the children of the yet to be cast character Nancy Tomkins, a guidance counselor.
Today it was announced that Cliff Curtis (Gang Related, Missing) was cast as male lead Sean Cabrera, a teacher who shares a son with his ex-wife Andrea, and is described as a good man who tries to do right by everyone in his life.
Not only has the spin-off gained three new actors, it’s also been given a “code name” for the pilot episode; Cobalt. Since the show hasn’t actually been given a series order, it’s likely that Cobalt will be the name of the pilot, and not the name of the entire series.
The pilot episode will be co-written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, with Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert executive producing, and Adam Davidson directing.
What are you hoping to see from The Walking Dead companion series? Are you afraid it will be more of the same, or are you expecting some exciting storylines? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below.
