Does Andrew Lincoln’s New Look Hint at Alexandria Safe-Zone Storyline?

AMC's "The Walking Dead" Season 5 Premiere

As if the set photos from this summer weren’t proof enough that the Alexandria Safe-Zone will be reached by the survivors at some point in Season 5 of The Walking Dead, Andrew Lincoln’s (aka Rick Grimes) new, cleaned up look most assuredly does.

The Walking Dead is still in the process of filming the remainder of Season 5 of AMC’s knock-out zombie drama. And as most comic book readers know, Rick Grimes and his band of survivors eventually reach the Alexandria-Safe Zone after the Hunters (the cannibals) story arc is complete.

For those of you that are unfamiliar, the Alexandria Safe-Zone is a few blocks of cleared streets in Alexandria, Virginia, about six miles from Washington, D.C. The area runs on an isolated power grid and was put together by the government in case of a major disaster. This is where our group meets a number of survivors and remains for a very long time.

But one of the main parts of this storyline fans may recognize – Rick shaves off his unruly, wild-man beard after reassuming his deputy sheriff position in the ASZ. Check out these images from the comic book (Issue 70) of a clean shaven Rick Grimes:

Other websites are reporting a possible “flash-back” scene, but this is highly unlikely. There is no way production would delay filming just to shoot a flashback sequence featuring a cleaned-up Rick Grimes. But what are your thoughts? Flashback scene, Alexandria Safe-Zone, or did Andrew Lincoln simply get killed off the show – just kidding. Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below!
